Dear Reader,
Have
you ever thought about why you don't see many possums around? Probably because
we're on the edge of the cliff, which is trying to survive extinction. It is
you, who pushed us off. But luckily we're still holding on.
You
think cats are adorable right, they are, but when the day is bright and sunny.
While you're just snoring terribly loud, those adorable little kittens become
ferocious beasts. They chew us down into minced meat, then have us for dinner.
CHOMP! CHOMP! They go. Did you know 20% of us possums get turned into cat food?
That's just in WA...
Hollow
trees, hollow sweet hollow. That one place which makes your mansions seem so
gauche. When we're in the middle of peace and quiet, a buzzing sound appears.
Our homes are lost to make your homes. Imagine how you'd feel if we chopped
down your home to make our own. Imagine
the place where your greatest memories occur, gone with a chop. We need homes
and so do you. What makes your homes more important than ours. Think about that
the next time you chop a tree. 30% of possums are killed or hurt by habitat
loss.
We
have mourned quite a lot about our losses. Let’s talk about what we can gain.
You humans can make a change by making our homes. You can make a hollow tree
out of clay, we can use them in wildlife rescues for hurt and homeless possums.
I have already contacted the CWR (Candy’s Wildlife Rescue) to help pitch the
idea for when a possum is in need.
To
conclude this letter, I have got to say, make a difference by telling your
neighbour to keep your cat inside, or even show this letter to wildlife
centres. We’ve said what we need to say, now it’s your turn to share it.
Kind
Regards,
Poss
