Meridith the witch

This kind, old lady, Meridith, from the senior citizens home invited me for tea. The design of her apartment was quite old fashioned, which kind of suited her considering her age. Not that she was like 100 years old. That would be an impolite thing to say. When I looked at the china plates in the glass cupboard, I saw my reflection. Wow, she must clean real good.

“Oh sweetie, I don’t have more tea left, I will have to go downstairs to get some more”, Meridith sighed. I smiled and nodded. She headed off downstairs. I felt a little sorry for her because I overheard gossip about Meridith being a witch. I think that’s rubbish. She seemed like a sweet old lady, who would ever believe that she was a witch. Anyway I don’t think there is a thing called a ‘witch’ here in the streets of Babilona.

An echoing cackle grasped my ear. Who would be cackling at this time of day? I don’t suppose it would be a witch. The other seniors probably carried their legs (and maybe wheelchairs) to the other side of the country. I think I should stop guessing and see what’s going on. I looked over my shoulder. Nothing much. Just the same ol’ apartment. No need to be paranoid. Just an inhibition. Maybe I need a nap.

I noticed something for a while, Meridith is taking quite long to get tea. Maybe she’s still walking down the stairs. You know what the old folks are like.

Anyway I took a nice nap on the couch. Her snazzy couch is surprisingly soft. Meridith has been good to the couch. I lay my head at the top of the backrest. As I was about to get comfy, a human-like hand stroked my hair. It felt like it hadn’t cut its nails in 10 years. It was cold and wrinkly. As it reached the bottom of my hair, it gave a harsh tug. I winced in pain. Ouch! Rude much.

Another attempt to nap. I snuggle up in the couch. Ahh, peace and quite, at last. I sealed my eyes shut as I had a relaxing smile shining bright. No more distractions. Suddenly, I heard a ceramic plate shatter in the kitchen. I froze for a few seconds, then sprinted to the kitchen. Okay, time to panic!

I glared at the shiny, sharp pieces of plate scattered around the kitchen rug. What I saw, was nothing. Nothing at all. I felt that harsh hair tug again.

This is just nonsense. I have been way to relaxed to think that there’s something going on. I turned my head and saw it. “Meridith?” I enquired, shocked. She was atrocious. She had a bulging wart on her chin,  wrinkles on her face, abnormally long hair and a smirk of terror. The rumors are true, Meridith is a witch!
